The TICA breed standard indicates
the goal of Nebelung breeding is to produce a blue cat with the
same type as those imported from Russia in the 19th and early 20th
centuries.
A show-quality Nebelung will have a
long body, legs and tail, broad shoulders, and should appear
well-proportioned and athletic, semi-foreign in type. The head
should appear a modified wedge in good proportion to the body.
Breed Description
Head:
Triangular
head with a blunt muzzle.
Eyes: Round
green eyes are prominently featured on
the head. The color may vary from green to yellow.
Ears: Erect,
widely spaced, large
in proportion to the head
Body: long,
fine-boned, graceful cat
Tail: long,
muscular.
Its fluffy tail distinguishes
the breed from the Russian Blue.

shimmering, silky blue coat of medium length. The coat is medium
long on the body, longer on the tail, with lighter colored guard
hairs.
History
In the 1980s in the
United States, a Russian Blue male was crossed with a female that
carried the longhair gene. The foundation stock for the new
longhaired breed, the Nebelung, was taken from two litters of that
cross.
Behavior
Nebelungs are
affectionate and devoted, however, they may display shyness with
strangers, particularly young children. A kitten may take a little
extra time to adjust to a new home environment. |
